Jakarta, October 11, 2024 – The Faculty of Psychology of the State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta is taking progressive steps in creating a greener and more sustainable campus environment by launching many environmentally friendly initiatives under the Green Campus program. The initiative aims to support the global movement in the fight against climate change while promoting environmental awareness among students and staff.

Many concrete steps have been implemented in this effort, which will not only change the appearance of the campus but also contribute to environmental sustainability. Some of the featured activities of the Green Campus program of the Faculty of Psychology UIN Jakarta include:

Vertical Garden:
The Faculty of Psychology has introduced the Vertical Garden concept in several campus areas. By utilizing empty walls, this vertical garden provides natural beauty while helping to absorb pollution and cool the surrounding environment. This vertical garden also serves as an educational medium for students to understand better the importance of plants in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem.

 Compost Fertilizer Processing and Water Tumbler Use:
As part of organic waste management, the Faculty of Psychology began implementing a compost fertilizer treatment system for campus organic waste. Students are involved in this activity to increase their awareness of environmentally friendly waste management. In addition, the campus also adopts the use of water tumblers. The goal of reducing plastic waste in bottled mineral drinking water by using tumblers is a natural action to increase plastic waste pollution in the work environment.

Utilization of Water Ditches as Fish Ponds and Water Absorption:
 Water gutters that are usually neglected are now being creatively utilized as fish ponds and water absorption systems. Not only improving the aesthetics of the campus environment, this innovation also helps prevent waterlogging and creates a more balanced ecosystem. A fish pond in the campus area is also expected to provide tranquility and comfort for the academic community.

BEAM Electric Bike Transportation:
As an environmentally friendly transportation solution, the Faculty of Psychology collaborates with BEAM electric bicycle service provider to provide a green mode of transportation for students and staff. This step is taken to reduce carbon emissions from motor vehicles while encouraging healthy living habits among the academic community.

The Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Dr. Yunita Faela Nisa, M.Psi, stated that this initiative focuses on environmental aspects and student character education. "We want students to be academically intelligent and have awareness and responsibility for the environment. This Green Campus program is one of our efforts to form a generation that cares and is active in preserving the earth," he said.

With the Green Campus program, the Faculty of Psychology UIN Jakarta hopes to be an example for other educational institutions in integrating environmental sustainability into daily campus life.
