Internal Coordination Meeting of the Research Ethics Committee, Faculty of Psychology: Strengthening Standards and Evaluating Research Implementation

On Friday, September 20, 2024, the Faculty of Psychology at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held an Internal Coordination Meeting of the Research Ethics Committee. The meeting was attended by the Dean, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, the Chairperson of the Committee, the Secretary, members, and reviewers of the research ethics committee. The meeting commenced at 10:30 AM WIB with opening remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Dr. Yunita Faela Nisa, M.Psi., Psychologist, who emphasized the importance of maintaining ethical standards in research, particularly in studies involving human participants. In her speech, she stressed that every research project must consider subjects' rights, safeguard their privacy, and avoid potential negative impacts on participants.

The meeting continued with discussions regarding several research proposals submitted by students, faculty, and researchers seeking ethical approval. The agenda then proceeded with a presentation from the Chairperson of the Research Ethics Committee regarding activities conducted, including internal training held at the Faculty of Psychology, benchmarking activities by the LP2M team, and representatives from the Faculty of Medicine, FIKES, and the Faculty of Psychology, as well as updates on proposals submitted from May to September 2024. Meeting participants then provided feedback and recommendations for improvements.

Several proposals deemed to meet ethical standards were immediately approved, while others required further revisions before proceeding to the research implementation stage. The meeting also addressed evaluation reports from ongoing research, particularly regarding the ethical procedures followed during data collection. The evaluation team reported that most studies were conducted well, but minor issues were noted regarding improving informed consent procedures to ensure complete and voluntary participation from subjects.

Before the meeting concluded at 11:45 AM WIB, the Chairperson ended the session with a message for all members to remain committed to upholding integrity and responsibility in overseeing the research processes within the faculty, aiming to produce high-quality and ethical research outcomes. The meeting was conducted smoothly and fostered productive discussions, making important decisions concerning continuing research within the Faculty of Psychology at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
