Fasting as a Means to Learn Patience: A Lecture by Prof. Dr. Abdul Mujib at the Faculty of Psychology UIN Jakarta

Tangsel, Monday, March 3, 2025 – In this blessed month, the Faculty of Psychology at UIN Jakarta once again held an inspiring lecture, this time on the theme "Fasting as a Means to Learn Patience." In this session, Prof. Dr. Abdul Mujib, M.Ag., M.Si., an academic and expert in Islamic studies, delivered an insightful lecture on the close relationship between fasting and the development of patience as a character trait.

In his lecture, Prof. Abdul Mujib emphasized that fasting is not merely about abstaining from food and drink; it is also a training in patience that encompasses various aspects of life. "Fasting teaches us to restrain ourselves, control our emotions, and increase our social awareness. This is a form of real-life learning to help us become more patient and wise in facing life's challenges," he said.

He also outlined three main aspects related to fasting and patience:

  1. Patience in Obeying Commandments – Discipline in fasting and performing other religious duties during Ramadan.
  2. Patience in Self-Control – Restraining desires, whether in terms of emotions, words, or actions.
  3. Patience in Facing Trials – Using fasting as training to face life's challenges with an open heart.

Additionally, Prof. Abdul Mujib connected fasting with psychological aspects, particularly in terms of mental well-being. "When a person fasts with full awareness and sincerity, they are better able to manage stress and strengthen their psychological resilience. This is why fasting can be an effective spiritual therapy," he added.

The lecture, which took place at the Mosque of the Faculty of Psychology, UIN Jakarta, was warmly received by the attendees. Many felt enlightened and gained a new perspective on how fasting can shape patience within themselves.

With its profound and insightful message, this lecture is expected to inspire Muslims to better understand the meaning of patience during fasting and to apply it in their daily lives.
